Abstrak

Flexible pavement will run into a decrease in performance due to the influence of traffic loads. When the pavement is loaded, the load will spread to the layers below in the form of tension. The spread of stress can cause deflection and ultimately failure. To restore pavement strength, one of the alternatives commonly used is overlay.  The additional layer thickness planning method is generally based on road pavement deflection data, either is the Falling Weight Deflectometer (FWD). 

In this research, two different methods will be used to calculate the design thickness of the overlay. The first method is the Bina Marga Pd.T 05-2005-B Method, this method is calculated manually based on CESAL and deflection from the FWD tool which is corrected by the annual average pavement temperature of the research location area. And the second method is the Suplemen Manual Desain Perkerasan Jalan (MDP) 2017 SE 2020, this method is also carried out manually based on CESA4, CESA5 and deflections which have been corrected for load, season, temperature corrections and FWD to BB adjustments. 

Based on the analysis results, the thickness of the Bina Marga Pd T-05-2005-B overlay was 5.78 cm and the Suplemen MDP 2017 SE 2020 was 4.00 cm. The cause of the difference in overlay thickness results between the two methods is due to differences in design parameters and the resulting traffic design. In the Bina Marga Pd T-05-2005-B method, light to heavy vehicles need to be taken into account in the analysis, whereas in the Suplemen MDP 2017 SE 2020 method, only commercial vehicles with six wheels or more need to be taken into account in the analysis, so the Bina Marga Pd method T-05-2005-B produces a greater traffic design than the Suplemen MDP 2017 SE 2020 method. Therefore, the Suplemen MDP 2017 SE 2020 Method is the most effective method for designing additional layer thickness (overlay) on the Tegalbuleud – Sindangbarang - Cidaun road section.
