Abstract

A road is infrastructure designed to connect various locations, allowing the movement of people, vehicles, and goods from one place to another. Roads are typically equipped with hard surfaces such as asphalt or concrete to support the weight of vehicles and facilitate faster and safer travel.

Over time, roads will inevitably suffer damage due to various factors such as weather, vehicle loads, and others. Because of these factors, proper road maintenance is required. One way to determine the necessary maintenance is by analyzing the damage using the International Roughness Index (IRI) and the Surface Distress Index (SDI) methods. The IRI method involves measuring road roughness using an Android-based application called RoadlabPro. Meanwhile, the SDI method is obtained from visual observations and measurements of road damage in the field.

The study results on the Ciamis – Kawali road section show a correlation coefficient (ratio) between the SDI and IRI values of r = 0.321, which indicates a weak correlation (ratio) as it falls within the range of 0 - 0.49. The average IRI value for road roughness is 3.25 m/km, indicating a good surface condition, while the average SDI value is 91.00, indicating a fair surface condition. The pavement condition is classified as fair, as the IRI is less than 4 and the SDI falls within the range of 50 – 100. Therefore, the type of pavement maintenance required for this road section is Routine Maintenance.
