Abstract

In the widening works of the Cipali toll road, there are problems, namely the condition of the subgrade is an expansive soil type where the CBR value obtained does not meet the requirements of > 6%, so a comparison of the expansive soil improvement with the replacement method using sirtu material and clay soil is carried out.

The research was carried out by comparing the results of laboratory CBR tests of sirtu and clay materials, then experimental methods were carried out in the field by making 5 pavement samples, namely with sirtu thicknesses of 10 cm, 20 cm, 30 cm, 40 cm, 50 cm and testing using field CBR.

The results of the laboratory CBR test of the existing soil showed a CBR value of 2.65%, for the sirtu material a value of 47.50% was obtained, while for the clay material it was 35%. The results of the field CBR tests showed that the CBR value reached 11% at a thickness of 20 cm. From these results, it can be concluded that sirtu material can be used as one of the soil amendment materials, but the selection of clay as one of the soil amendment materials can also be another alternative seeing the existence of clay soil can be found in different places.
