Abstrak

Low work motivation is indicated by the presence of employees who come to sit and wait for time to rest only, and the lack of pressure from the superior makes employees less motivated and feels safe with the current situation. This study aims to investigate the work motivation of employees at the Youth and Sports Office of Central Sulawesi Province. This study used a qualitative approach to identify the meaning and the main problems related to work motivation. The sample was selected using the purposive sampling technique with the consideration of understanding the research problem. Data were collected by observation, interviews, and documentation. This study used both primary and secondary data. Then, the data were analyzed qualitatively with a descriptive approach. The results showed that the aspects of salary and income certainty to meet physiological needs have been met so that this is no longer considered an aspect affecting employees’ work motivation. Meanwhile, security and social needs in terms of comfort in working and good relationships in the workplace have not been fulfilled Further, the esteem and self-actualization needs have not been met. The low work motivation is caused by the lack of working spirit, work ethic, and innovation so that security needs, social needs, esteem needs, and self-actualization needs cannot be fulfilled.
